For many years ExactTarget has been a powerhouse of email and social media marketing. In 2013, ExactTarget was acquired by Salesforce and is now offered as the ExactTarget Marketing Cloud. The basic platform has come a long way with a much improved user interface and more synergy than ever before across its major marketing channels: email, social, web, and mobile. There is a new campaign builder called Journey Builder, which lets you schedule, customize target communications in a visual workflow editor. ExactTarget aims to be a complete marketing engine for your organization.

Salesforce Integration

ExactTarget has a long-standing integration available for Salesforce. There’s much to like about the integration and the simplicity it offers. You can mail to a Campaign, Report or a combination of both, add suppression segments, and add personalization to the email message. All sending takes place via a single Salesforce tab so the workflow is very easy to understand. However, the integration suffers from the same problem that many others do namely that email statistics are stored as custom objects and can therefore run your data storage up very quickly. With ExactTarget now under the Salesforce umbrella we hope to see improvements in how this area of how the integration works.

ExactTarget now has a Foundation which is a grantmaking division of the company aimed at helping organizations who work on childhood hunger, education, or social entrepreneurship.
