Proud to be a B Corp – why Delaware matters

By: Kirsten Kippen

As one of the first 50 B Corps, we at Idealist Consulting have long been proud to be part of this community of sustainable businesses certified to uphold social, environmental, and ethical policies. We’re in good company, with companies such as Patagonia, Etsy, and Seventh Generation all counting themselves in the B Corp community.

This month we’re especially proud – on July 17th Delaware became the 18th state to pass b corp legislation. Forbes calls this a “tipping point in the evolution of capitalism” due to Delaware’s concentration of entrepreneurs and investors. Home to 50% of all publicly-traded companies, there are a lot more businesses that will start taking notice.

But on a personal level – it just feels good. We got behind this from the start. The best part is, we’ve never had to stretch to uphold B Corp values. We recycle and bring our own leftover lunches and get involved in our local tech and Salesforce events. And we’re really excited to be part of the next evolution of B corps. Learn more here and let us know if you have any ideas how we can embody these values in the future.
