Salesforce1 for the Admin on the go
This post was contributed by consultant, Aaron Von Reuter.
It’s no secret that Salesforce is making a huge push for taking the platform to mobile devices. Salesforce1 has revolutionized the way a lot of users interact with their CRM database. Not as well known as Salesforce1 are the applications that have been launched to make the life of an admin a little easier. Say goodbye to coding in the basement, and hello to the possibilities of working from nearly anywhere.
SalesforceA
With SalesforceA, you can perform essential user management tasks—including editing user details, resetting passwords, assigning permission sets, and unlocking, freezing, and deactivating user accounts—all from your mobile device. Here are some essential tips for how to get the most out of SalesforceA.
-
From your home screen, review a snapshot of your instance health, as well as gain easy access to recently viewed Users and a count of locked or frozen User records.
-
View a User detail and easily freeze, deactivate or contact a User from your Org.
-
View User related lists to find information such as added Permission Sets and Login History
As long as you have “Manage Users” permission, and an iOS or Android device, being an admin on the go just got a whole lot easier.
Authenticator
Salesforce Authenticator adds an extra layer of security for your online accounts with two-factor authentication. With Salesforce Authenticator, you use your mobile device in addition to your password to verify your logins and other account activity. The app sends you a push notification, and you respond with just a tap. Salesforce Authenticator also uses your mobile device's location to verify your identity based on trusted locations, like your office or home. Verification codes are available when you need them. Salesforce Authenticator works with the entire Salesforce Platform—Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud (ExactTarget), App Cloud, and Analytics Cloud—as well as third-party services that use OATH tokens.
Salesforce Authenticator also supports "old school" two-step authentication on Facebook, Google, Outlook, Dropbox, Evernote, or anything marked "Software Implementation" at Two Factor Auth (2FA) Some key features include:
-
Easily set up authentication for multiple accounts
-
Set up authentication for specific, trusted geographic areas
For more information about Two-Factor Authentication, go here. Again, you must have an iOS or Android device to access Salesforce Authenticator.

While this isn’t really a “mobile app”, it is a great, little known tool to help get your user’s feet wet with with Salesforce1 by building a walk-through tutorial of SF1 features. To learn more about the Adoption Tool, you can watch this YouTube video: or reference this doc for help:
