Top 5 Salesforce Chrome Extensions

By: Mya Lwin

While there’s no shortage of resources for Salesforce users, determining which tool to use and when can still be challenging. Valuable resources can fall by the wayside if they’re out of sight, so embedding helpful hints directly into your browser is one way of keeping them at the forefront.

Here are some of the top Chrome* extensions that will make your life just a little easier:
*Salesforce is supported by most browsers, but you may need to do some additional configurations with Explorer and Firefox to make sure it’s running optimally. There are probably comparable extensions for alternative browsers, but since we’re partial to Chrome, our top five is limited to Chrome extensions.

  • Salesforce Navigator This extension helps you quickly navigate to any Salesforce setup page with a keyboard shortcut, which you can configure to your liking.  Just type what you need to do in the backend of Salesforce in the floating search bar that appears on the page and you’re ready to go! No need to click through multiple menus and no need to memorize how to get to the setup pages you need.
  • Salesforce Inspector With this extension, you can easily inspect all data and metadata directly from the Salesforce UI, as well as edit all data for a record, even data that is hidden from the page layout. You can also quickly view field information directly from a record detail page and perform data exports and imports straight from within Salesforce.
  • Salesforce.com Enhanced Formula Editor If you’re a formula nerd and want something more robust than the original Salesforce formula editor, this extension is for you. It’ll add features like tabbing, syntax highlighting, parenthesis matching, find and replace, and full screen capability straight to the formula editor.
  • Force.com LOGINS Any administrators or developers out there who work on multiple Salesforce instances know how much of a pain it can be to keep track of all their accounts and log-in information.  But with this extension, you can manage your salesforce.com log-in information and log into any of your accounts with a single click. The log-in credentials are stored locally, and you can log into any selected account in a new tab or window.  The extension allows you to group your accounts for easy management, and you can export and import the account information.
  • Salesforce Developer Tool Suite Developers rejoice! This extension is useful for quickly viewing and managing your debug logs without leaving your current Salesforce tab. You can get a hierarchical view of debug logs, and the extension comes with features like the ability filter logs, set logging level or traceflags for any users or apex code, and track logs for multiple users.

While hacks, plugins, and extensions are helpful, you might find that you still need help getting your instance to a sweet spot that really sings.
