3 Small Changes Make Pardot Engagement Studio Easier Than Ever

By: Christopher Bayerle

New Features in the Pardot August ‘19 Release Boost Engagement Studio Usability

Pardot has a lot of powerful marketing automation tools that allow users to segment lists of prospects, send autoresponder emails, and create beautiful and dynamic content. But Engagement Studio is the crown jewel of all those tools. It isn’t just about email—you can use it to route and qualify leads, apply tags, and so much more. You can definitely get creative with it.

You can do a lot with Engagement Studio already, and this month, Salesforce released three small but significant updates that make Engagement Studio even easier to use. Check out what’s new to Pardot’s Engagement Studio below.

1. Step IDs in Engagement Studio

This is a tiny change that’ll make planning and developing Engagement programs much more manageable.

Now, when you create similar types of steps on the Engagement Studio canvas, the default label will display a number to help differentiate between similar steps. The number will be automatically generated when you create a step and won’t change if you add or delete a step later. This helps distinguish between steps when looking at the Canvas and when reading Engagement History metrics.

This new feature will be automatically turned off for all Pardot accounts in August—no need to do anything.

2. Engagement Studio Rules with Multiple Conditions

This is the big one! This is the one that’s sure to excite many Pardot users!

If you’ve worked in Engagement Studio before, you know that complex logic required you to chain multiple steps together to achieve the desired result. If you wanted to target prospects in the program who were members of a particular campaign AND have a score greater than 50, you needed to create two steps. Well, that has all changed with the new Complex Rules feature released this month. You can now combine logic in a single step, making it more expedient to set up Engagement programs and read reporting.

Complex Rules is another new feature that will be automatically available in all Pardot instances at the end of August.

3. More Engagement History Details in Lightning

The last Engagement Studio-related feature being released this month appears in Salesforce, not Pardot. When looking at Engagement History components, list views, or dashboards, Salesforce users can now see that an email was automatically sent as part of an automation rule, completion action, or Engagement program. This helps differentiate automated emails like these from other list and one-to-one emails, and the Engagement Program name can also be added to list views.

Details like these help us understand how prospects, leads, and contacts are interacting with marketing automation, but you will need your Salesforce admin to help if you want to add the Program Name column to the List Email list view or to make sure list views, components, or dashboards are set up.

Gimme More!

There are several other new features coming to Pardot this month, including an update to the GoToWebinar connector and support for multiple tracker domains. Check out the Pardot release page for more details about everything getting added this month.
