Second City Canine Rescue Streamlines Pet Adoptions with Salesforce

By: Jacqueline Fassett

The Objective:

Second City Canine Rescue’s (SCCR) mission is to rescue homeless dogs and responsibly place them into permanent, loving homes. As they rely solely on foster homes to house the dogs, they host adoption events to find the dog’s fur-ever home. At these events, prospective families fill out a detailed paper adoption application and pay an adoption fee. SCCR came to Idealist Consulting for help becoming more efficient with an online application process and payment platform that would connect to their CRM.

The Problem:

SCCR is run entirely by volunteers, so they find themselves constantly challenged with competing demands for their time. Their use of Blackbaud’s eTapestry as a CRM had become cumbersome and “maddeningly frustrating”. They could not integrate their adoption payments or adoption application into the CRM. So when SCCR received their renewal notice for eTapestry, they decided to migrate to Salesforce to better meet their organization’s needs.

The Solution:

Idealist Consulting migrated SCCR from eTapestry to Salesforce’s Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) and integrated Stripe and FormAssembly to help streamline their adoption process. Stripe allows them to process payments on site during an adoption event. Idealist Consulting also moved SCCR’s paper application to a digital document in FormAssembly, so now anyone can easily access the application during the adoption process.

The Result:

Now Second City Canine Rescue can focus on rescuing more dogs without worrying their technology will hold them back. They have saved hours of manual data entry and have been able to create a smoother adoption process. One of their favorite features in Salesforce is an automated thank you email that includes a receipt and kicks off a follow-up email series that includes medical contacts and information should the new dog owners need anything.

In future projects, they are looking to add an event management platform, a volunteer tracking app, and enter legacy data from paper forms so they can work completely paperless.

In their words:

“We’ve had a great overall experience. We felt David (Solution Analyst) and Grant (Project Lead) went above and beyond. They really thought about our needs during the build out. They were committed to our organization. They set realistic expectations, and then blew them away!” -Jacquie Cobb, President, SCCR.
